'KINYRAS, KING AND HIEROPHANT
The Cypriot composer Anastasia Guy created her circle of songs 'KINYRAS, KING AND HIEROPHANT' in 2009. This opus is part of a major cultural project of the composer and The Cyprus Wine Museum entitled “The Kinyras Project”: it contains art and archaeological exhibitions, publications and concerts.
The Circle of Songs was first performed in May 2009 during the European Nights of Museums in Cyprus and a month later during the Games of Small States of Europe in Cyprus. In the musical work the composer meets ancient history and mythology with music set to poetry by Sappho, Pindarus, George Seferis, Odysseas Elytis and on the poetical work of Athena Charalambides. In the songs, the Hymn to Aphrodite, the colors and the aromas of the island dominate, and the music competition between Kinyras and Apollo is the climax of the entire circle.
