Kinyras Cultural Organisation and The Commandaria Orchestra
According to Greek mythology, Kinyras, King of Pafos or Cyprus, was grandson of Aphrodite. In Cyprus, Kinyras was revered as the creator of art and musical instruments, such as the flute.
The Kinyras Cultural Organization was founded in 2009 by Anastasia Guy and Dr Francis Guy and is based at The Cyprus Wine Museum, in Erimi, in the area of the historic headquarters of The Knight Templars and Knights of St. John, «La Grande Commanderie». This is one of the reasons that the orchestra established for the aims of the organization is called «Commandaria Orchestra».
The Organization works closely with emerging talents, established artists and scientists from the arts, archaeology, wine and the perfume world. This cooperation results in research-based, innovative projects, in the form of museum and gallery exhibitions, art installations, performances and publications. «Kinyras» collaborates with cultural organizations, cultural and public benefit foundations, museums, galleries, independent artists, state bodies and private companies.
The Orchestre La Grande Commanderie de Chypre (Commandaria Orchestra) was established in 2009 by the Cyprus Wine Museum as part of The Kinyras Cultural Project, having as its main target the implementation of the visions of the institution, including the spread of the musical culture of Cyprus, as well as of works from the classical repertoire, directly connected to Greek history and mythology.
The Circle of Songs «Kinyras Kypri and the Nereids», was composed for soprano, tenor, baritone and instrumental quartet (flute, violin, piano and violoncello) in 2009. This opus is part of a major project of the composer and The Cyprus Wine Museum, entitled «Notes of Kinyras: Music, Wine and Perfume since the 4th Millennium B.C. – and Evidence from Erimi», that contains art and archeological exhibitions and publications.
